Letter from the Dean

“Welcome to the Staffordshire Deanery Website. We hope the information you find here will be helpful and interesting. It will be a mix of names and places - which will be fairly constant - and highlights of events taking place in the near future - which will change pretty often.

The Deanery is mainly located in the County Town of Stafford with a group of rural parishes to the west and another to the north-east. It is part of Lichfield Diocese (Church of England) and is under the immediate supervision of the Bishop of Stafford. The Clergy Chapter meets on the second Tuesday of every month, except January and August; the Deanery Synod is held four or five times a year.

Someone has said that the Deanery represents ‘the outside boundary of the local church and the inside boundary of the universal church’ and we try to stay true to that ideal by addressing issues that are pertinent to the church life of parishes in and around Stafford and by considering issues that are affecting the wider life of the church far beyond Stafford.

Our motto consists of some words of Charles de Foucauld and remind us that unless we are willing to take risks and break new ground we will not accomplish much. So we hope to move forward in that spirit of adventure confident that we will not be failed by the God of surprises who delights to see us exploring and experiencing the richness of His love for us and the whole world and then endeavouring to share that love with all whom we encounter through our ministry and mission. So may God bless you and all who arrive at this website.”
